My journey to translation
I have always wanted to work with words. And languages have been part of my daily life since the beginning. Judge for yourselves! I studied litterature and languages (English, Spanish and German) in high school. Then I got a Bachelor degree in English language, litterature and foreign civilization at the University of Pau, with an option in Portuguese language. And took six months of Chinese courses. Let’s be clear : languages were my first love!
Thunderstruck in Ireland
1998: I visit Ireland for the first time to attend courses in English with other foreign students at the University of Limerick. A real thunderstruck in my life. From that day, I spend some time on the Emerald Isle at least once a year.
A journalistic carreer for two decades
2000: I undertake a journalistic career in a local newspaper (« Sud Ouest »). I hold several positions: writer, proofreader, layout artist, copyeditor, webeditor. I specialise in Web and social medias for a while and keep a link with English language (interviews, reports).
Book on U2 and report in Northern Ireland
2017: I write a book (in French) on the relationship between the Irish band U2 and their fans all over the world. Most of the testimonials are written in English. I have a lot of fun translating and transcribing them.
2018: my report idea is chosen by the newspaper I work for and I fly to Belfast for a report on the Troubles and art. This experience changes my perception of life. The idea of undertaking a new career in translation enters my mind.
Time to move on
2020-2021: I begin a one-year training course to learn translation techniques from English into French and I finally complete a Master degree in technical translation. I’m mostly interested in travel and tourism, environment, woodworking (specifically violin making as I play violin myself) and archeology (egyptology).
2022: I launch Rock and Owl Traductions and become a freelance translator.
